We recommend an annual exam to help evaluate your vision, examine your eye health, and screen for other health issues. Plus, it gives you an opportunity to ask an expert optometrist any eye-related questions.
A detailed image of the surface of your retina for the doctor to assess your eye health and check for conditions like macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinal detachments (available at most locations for an additional $35)
Thankfully, no—we have newer methods for measuring intraocular pressure now.
It's best to have this information handy:
A list of any eye- or vision-related symptoms you're experiencing
An overview of your and your family's medical history
A list of medications you're taking (non-prescription medications included)
Your vision insurance information (if applicable)
Any questions you'd like to ask the eye doctor
You should also bring any corrective lenses you're currently using—glasses and contacts—and a pair of sunglasses to wear afterwards in case your eyes are dilated during your exam.
A comprehensive eye exam includes tests for visual acuity, refraction, and binocular vision, as well as a full ocular health assessment. A retinal exam may also be performed, sometimes requiring pupil dilation. Learn more about what to expect here.
We recommend getting an eye exam once a year to evaluate your vision, examine your eye health, and screen for other health issues. Other factors may influence how often you get an eye exam, including your age, whether you wear glasses or contacts, and if your medical history puts you at higher risk for eye diseases.
We're in-network with most major vision carriers, like UnitedHealthcare, Davis Vision, Superior Vision, and some VSP plans. For other plans, like EyeMed and Cigna, we often work as an out-of-network carrier. (Not all optometrists accept all insurance plans. We can only confirm your coverage details during your visit.)
Glasses and contacts prescriptions typically expire one to two years after the prescription was written. This time frame may vary depending on your state's regulations and the risk of your vision changing more quickly.

Long story, but the doctor I go to to get my eyeglass prescription is highly respected (Bascom Palmer) but they do not do contact prescriptions. In all honesty I wasn't sure what to expect from going to a retail store to get a prescription. But I figured since I was already ordering a new pair of glasses at Warby Parker I might as well get a fast contact prescription while I was there.
Well, I can not remember the last time anyone in any medical area spent so much time with my concerns. My normal doctors have always spent enough time. My questions are answered. I am not necessarily rushed. But it is always apparent that every minute the doctor is with me is a minute being burned away from someone else’s time.
Dr. Martinez easily could have done the proper tests and simply said “smoke up Johnny” as she threw a box of samples at me. But that was not the experience I had.
The tests she did suggested a prescription, and since I have never worn contacts before, 3 different people tried to teach me how to put them in. Turns out I am particularly unskilled at poking things into and out of my eyeballs. But everyone was supportive no matter how incompetently I fumbled their helpful advice.
When I finally got the contacts in, I was super happy with what I got. But Dr. Martinez ran some more tests and was curious, “I wonder if we could make it better…” Going over the numbers from the first prescription (which seemed perfectly acceptable to me) she gave me a second left eye contact to try, hoping that we could bring down the focal length a little in the eye that was the better reading eye. It turned out to be even more of what I wanted.
In all honesty, I found this level of attention to be highly atypical of doctors today. Again, I am very happy with the doctors I have. But they do not lavish upon me the level attention that Dr. Martinez was able to.
Now, if you go to this Warby Parker based on this recommendation and they are swamped the day you go, and the service you get sucks, I apologize. But in my case it was one of the better doctor based experiences I have had in awhile. Dr. Martinez seemed to care about doing better than just “good enough”.
I have found that that is not always as common as you hope.

I popped in for a visit and was helped by Julie and Cody. Wonderful customer service - they were both very attentive. Julie wanted to make sure I loved what I chose. The doctor here is very compassionate and understanding. They won't force you into an uncomfortable prescription because it's what's technically correct; they work with you to find a prescription that's functional without being overbearing. The OT was kind and explained everything she was doing to my eyes. She and Cody in the store let me take my time and advised me on the best frames to pick based on my personal style. amazing team.

The Warby Parker in the Nora District is absolutely fantastic! The store is spotless, stylish, and welcoming. Everyone there is so kind and goes out of their way to answer your questions and make you feel comfortable. They have a wonderful selection of glasses, sunglasses and contacts. They truly do everything they can to accommodate you in the best way possible.
Dr. Martinez was absolutely lovely, and every single person I encountered made the experience enjoyable from start to finish. The whole process was quick, efficient, and completely hassle-free.

It's still a very new store, so traffic was light, but that was perfect for me since I had to have some adjustments made. Staff was incredible. Very friendly, kind, and knowledgeable. It was great not having to walk through a mall to get to them. Parking was free for the first hour so it was just overall really convenient.
