Dr. Kristi Taormina
Introduction
Dr. Kristi Taormina is a state-licensed optometrist who graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry in 2000. Specializing in primary care optometry, Dr. Taormina uses cutting-edge technology and clinical expertise to perform a comprehensive eye health exam—prescribing eyeglasses, fitting contact lenses, evaluating eye health, and more for patients ages 4 and up.
Dr. Fredrick Shinners
Introduction
Dr. Frederick Shinners graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in 1994. In his downtime, he enjoys spending time in nature and photographing waterfalls.

Specializing in primary care optometry, Dr. Taormina uses cutting-edge technology and clinical expertise to perform a comprehensive eye health exam—prescribing eyeglasses, fitting contact lenses, evaluating eye health, and more for patients ages 4 and up.
Comprehensive exams starting at $95
We recommend an annual exam to help evaluate your vision, examine your eye health, and screen for other health issues. Plus, it gives you an opportunity to ask an expert optometrist any eye-related questions.
A detailed image of the surface of your retina for the doctor to assess your eye health and check for conditions like macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinal detachments (available at most locations for an additional $39)
Thankfully, no—we have newer methods for measuring intraocular pressure now.
It's best to have this information handy:
A list of any eye- or vision-related symptoms you're experiencing
An overview of your and your family's medical history
A list of medications you're taking (non-prescription medications included)
Your vision insurance information (if applicable)
Any questions you'd like to ask the eye doctor
You should also bring any corrective lenses you're currently using—glasses and contacts—and a pair of sunglasses to wear afterwards in case your eyes are dilated during your exam.
A comprehensive eye exam includes tests for visual acuity, refraction, and binocular vision, as well as a full ocular health assessment. A retinal exam may also be performed, sometimes requiring pupil dilation. Learn more about what to expect here.
We recommend getting an eye exam once a year to evaluate your vision, examine your eye health, and screen for other health issues. Other factors may influence how often you get an eye exam, including your age, whether you wear glasses or contacts, and if your medical history puts you at higher risk for eye diseases.
We're in-network with most major vision carriers, like UnitedHealthcare, Davis Vision, Superior Vision, and some VSP plans. For other plans, like EyeMed and Cigna, we often work as an out-of-network carrier. (Not all optometrists accept all insurance plans. We can only confirm your coverage details during your visit.)
Glasses and contacts prescriptions typically expire one to two years after the prescription was written. This time frame may vary depending on your state's regulations and the risk of your vision changing more quickly.

Jenny and the team did a fabulous job getting me in and out quickly and helping me select frames. I really appreciate the extra care to help me submit for a reimbursement from my vision insurance company. I traveled from Orangeburg to come to the store and I'll gladly do it again. A Refreshing Experience!
I’m usually the person who intends to leave a review but never gets around to it. This time, I made sure to sit down and do it because the team at Warby Parker, King Street, Charleston, SC, truly deserves the praise.
The Highlights:
Seamless Scheduling: I was traveling and needed to use my insurance before it expired. I booked an appointment online with very short notice, and the automated reminders kept me right on track.
Above-and-Beyond Service: We ran into some tricky insurance questions as my insurance policy has more benefits than the standard, but the staff didn’t just shrug their shoulders—we called the insurance company on loudspeaker, until it was sorted. Even though it took a while, they still honored my appointment time without rushing me.
Fresh Styles & Great Value: I wasn't sure what to expect from the brand, but the frames felt durable and much more affordable than what I’m used to. The sunglasses are awesome, and the kids' frames are incredibly cute.
Zero Pressure: I had to rush off to a meeting, but the assistant was so helpful. She encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone (I always pick the same style!) and saved my favorites to an online "wish list."
I’ve always been apprehensive about buying glasses online, but after trying them on in person and having my prescription emailed to me before I even left the store, I feel totally confident to order. I've taken a quick peep at my chosen frames and now can't decide which frame I want. I'll choose one soon as I need to.
Every single person who attended to me (at least 5 of them) was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient without making me feel all they want is a sale. It was an awesome experience—I’ll definitely be back!

Customer service all the way. From choosing frames and assisting in sizing, to getting the prescription produced and dialed in. Everyone has been so professional and personable. I ask a lot of questions because I want to understand the process and the ins and outs of prescription lenses, and they are all too patient and open to answering my questions and addressing concerns… and their frames and pretty cool too!
