Dr. Anthony Palesis is a state-licensed optometrist who graduated from the UC Berkeley School of Optometry in 2020. Specializing in primary care optometry, Dr. Palesis uses cutting-edge technology and clinical expertise to perform a comprehensive eye health exam—prescribing eyeglasses, fitting contact lenses, evaluating eye health, and more for patients ages 4 and up.

Comprehensive exams starting at $95
We recommend an annual exam to help evaluate your vision, examine your eye health, and screen for other health issues. Plus, it gives you an opportunity to ask an expert optometrist any eye-related questions.
A detailed image of the surface of your retina for the doctor to assess your eye health and check for conditions like macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinal detachments (available at most locations for an additional $35)
Thankfully, no—we have newer methods for measuring intraocular pressure now.
It's best to have this information handy:
A list of any eye- or vision-related symptoms you're experiencing
An overview of your and your family's medical history
A list of medications you're taking (non-prescription medications included)
Your vision insurance information (if applicable)
Any questions you'd like to ask the eye doctor
You should also bring any corrective lenses you're currently using—glasses and contacts—and a pair of sunglasses to wear afterwards in case your eyes are dilated during your exam.
A comprehensive eye exam includes tests for visual acuity, refraction, and binocular vision, as well as a full ocular health assessment. A retinal exam may also be performed, sometimes requiring pupil dilation. Learn more about what to expect here.
We recommend getting an eye exam once a year to evaluate your vision, examine your eye health, and screen for other health issues. Other factors may influence how often you get an eye exam, including your age, whether you wear glasses or contacts, and if your medical history puts you at higher risk for eye diseases.
We're in-network with most major vision carriers, like UnitedHealthcare, Davis Vision, Superior Vision, and some VSP plans. For other plans, like EyeMed and Cigna, we often work as an out-of-network carrier. (Not all optometrists accept all insurance plans. We can only confirm your coverage details during your visit.)
Glasses and contacts prescriptions typically expire one to two years after the prescription was written. This time frame may vary depending on your state's regulations and the risk of your vision changing more quickly.

I had an issue seeing out of my left eye that came on pretty abruptly, so I did some research and saw that Warby Parker offered a “comprehensive” eye exam for $99 (if I remember correctly). I booked an appointment for early September 2025.
When I arrived, I was charged $140 instead. Because I was nervous about my vision, I went ahead and paid it. I was given a retinal scan on both eyes and then saw the doctor. I explained all of my symptoms in detail. The doctor ran a few tests, had me try different lenses, and then told me my eyes were perfectly healthy. He said the only issue was that my right eye was dominant and my left eye was slightly weaker. Since this was my very first eye exam, I trusted his expertise. He prescribed new glasses, and I ordered a pair that same day.
A few days later, I got the glasses and wore them, but they did nothing to fix the issue. Concerned, I got a second opinion from another eye doctor. That doctor diagnosed me with an eye disease that requires close monitoring and treatment. I was told I do not need glasses at all, and that if the condition is not monitored properly, I could lose vision in my left eye.
The reason I am sharing this is to warn others: if you are having vision problems, go see a medical doctor first. Do not rely on Warby Parker’s so-called “comprehensive” eye exam. In my experience, it was not comprehensive at all, and the goal seemed to be selling me glasses rather than identifying my actual condition.
I also contacted Warby Parker afterward to request a refund for the exam & and they declined to do so.
If you already know you just need glasses, Warby Parker might be fine. But if you are experiencing vision problems for the first time, I strongly recommend going elsewhere or to a medical doctor.

I tried looking at glasses from Warby Parker online. I liked several of the frames and used the virtual try on through the app. I preferred going to the store for the final purchase. They took some additional measurements and I was able to try on my choice to see how they would feel. The techs at the store were friendly, knowledgeable and efficient.
